Vertigo/Dizziness

How Past Injuries Can Lead to Meniere’s Disease

Meniere’s disease, along with other issues, can be related to an injury of the upper neck vertebrae that possibly occurred a long time ago. Often, people forget about their injuries after a few years and do not think these can affect current health. This is not always the case. It is important to let your doctor know of any past trauma you’ve experienced, even if you think it was minor.

Some problems that can occur from past injuries are:

  • Dizziness or vertigo
  • Loss of hearing
  • Ringing in the ears called tinnitus
  • Repetitive ear infections
  • Cochlear hydrops
  • Meniere’s disease

Meniere’s Disease Linked to an Upper Cervical Misalignment

Dr. Michael Burcon has conducted extensive research that revealed a link between upper neck injuries and a number of different health conditions, including Meniere’s disease. These types of injuries that affect the neck can cause a misalignment in the C1 or C2 vertebra. This can lead to lesions of the Eustachian tube. What kinds of trauma can cause a misalignment?

  • Tripping and falling
  • Sporting injuries
  • Vehicle accidents
  • Any head or neck trauma, minor or major

It can take a full 15 years for these injuries to manifest themselves as a health related problem. That is why most people forget about them or do not think they are causing current issues.

Meniere’s Disease and the Brainstem

A misalignment of just ¼ of a millimeter is enough to wreak havoc on the entire body. This is due to the fact that a misalignment in this area of the body puts undue pressure on the brainstem. The brainstem is responsible for sending and receiving signals to and from the brain and body. If it is hindered in any way, it does not perform at its optimum.

At Pancake Wellness Center, we examine patients to determine exactly where a misalignment lies and then work with them to realign the spine. When this is done, the body begins to communicate properly once again, and conditions such as Meniere’s disease often improve.
