Vertigo/Dizziness

Pancake Wellness Center Takes on Meniere’s Disease

Coping with the symptoms of Meniere’s disease is not an easy task. This condition affects the inner ear and, in turn, a person’s balance system. It is accompanied by the following symptoms:

  • Severe vertigo – a false sensation of movement
  • Tinnitus – ringing in the ears
  • A feeling of fullness in the ears
  • Temporary hearing loss that may become permanent if not cared for

Meniere’s can come about at any age, but it is most often seen in those between the ages of 40 and 60. While many theories abound, no one is sure exactly what causes Meniere’s disease. Here is a list of some of the most agreed upon theories:

  • Inherited genes
  • Viruses
  • Constricted blood vessels
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Allergies

It is generally understood that a problem with the ears leads to a problem with one’s sense of balance. This is due to the many sensors contained within the ear that repeatedly send signals to the brain about where the body is located in its environment. The brain needs these vital signals so that it can make corrections about posture and similar body movements. If one has a build-up of fluid in the ear, these signals become distorted and can lead to the symptoms of Meniere’s disease.

Alleviating Meniere’s Disease Symptoms Through Upper Cervical Care

We have had much success in helping those suffering from Meniere’s disease here at our Kissimmee, Florida practice. We understand the important relationship between the head and neck and how a misalignment in one of the top bones of the neck can cause problems throughout the entire body.

The atlas – the top bone of the neck – easily moves out of place due to daily wear and tear, accidents, and other head or neck injuries. Once this occurs, the way the head is positioned over the body changes and the weight of the head becomes unevenly distributed throughout the spine. This leads to pressure on the brainstem and causes signals traveling to the brain to be hindered. We use a gentle method to correct the problem, often leading to an improvement in Meniere’s disease.
