Those suffering from vertigo brought about by Meniere’s disease can tell you just how devastating it can be. It may cause a person to be unable to perform his daily activities. In addition to vertigo, the person may experience:
An attack of Meniere’s can last up to 6 hours and can often be linked to an increase in sodium in the diet. Sodium causes fluid to build up within the inner ear.
Medical treatment is often geared towards reducing the amount of fluid in the body. This can help the inner ear to regain control over the signals being sent from the balance center, reducing the vertigo sensation. While medication may help, it will only be for a short time. Unless the underlying cause of Meniere’s is addressed, the problems will continue to occur.

The spine is responsible for protecting the delicate spinal cord. The spinal cord is the communication superhighway of the body. It sends and receives signals from the brain and body. If a misalignment is present in one of the bones of the neck, signals can become distorted. This can lead to the inner ear not draining fluid properly and the balance center of the ear telling the brain that the body is off center.
At Pancake Wellness Center, we use a specific method to examine patients for misalignments in either the C1 (atlas) or C2 (axis) bones of the upper neck. Then a gentle technique that does not involve popping the spine is used to restore the vertebrae to their proper positions. This gentle procedure called Atlas Orthogonal allows the bones to move more naturally back to where they belong.
A study performed involving 139 patients with Meniere’s disease, revealed that after receiving upper cervical chiropractic care, 136 of them reported a definite decrease in such symptoms as vertigo and nausea. This allowed patients to be able to resume more of their normal daily activities.
