Vertigo/Dizziness

The Technology of the 21st Century Brings About Cyber Dizziness

A new kind of dizziness that is becoming more and more common is called cybersickness or digital motion sickness. Due to the technological advances in the 21st-century people are engaging on a regular basis with their iPads, tablets, and smartphones. This can overwhelm the senses of a person leading to cybersickness or dizziness.

When people have motion sickness, for example on a boat, it is due to the sensations that the muscles and joints feel but often cannot see. This is why going aboveboard and looking at the horizon line can help a person feel better. The opposite it true with cybersickness. A person is looking at motion on his digital device, but the body is not feeling it and becomes confused.

Along with dizziness, it can also cause nausea, a headache, and a general feeling of illness. While anyone can experience this sensation, the following are more likely to encounter it:

  • Those with a history of migraines
  • Women
  • Those with a type-a or perfectionist personality

Alleviating Dizziness Naturally

As an upper cervical chiropractor, I have seen a number of patients that have dizziness as their major complaint. To help them cope with this problem, I focus my attention on making sure the C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis) bones are in alignment. If a misalignment occurs here, it can place pressure on the brainstem and cause signals being sent from the nervous system to be hindered. This can lead to such things as dizziness and the symptom associated with it.

A case study was done observing 60 patients who had vertigo. After receiving upper cervical chiropractic care, 48 of these patients reported a total resolution of their symptoms. The remaining 12 stated that they experienced a major reduction in their symptoms. I strive to provide patients with similar results.
