A Common Thread Among Migraine Sufferers

Your head is throbbing, you can’t stand to open your eyes because it’s too bright, even the slightest sound is excruciating, and you’re overcome with waves of nausea.  If this sounds familiar to you, you’re probably one of the 37 million or so Americans who suffer from migraines.  Migraines can affect anyone, but there are some common threads that connect many migraine sufferers:

  • Most are women – 70% of all migraine sufferers are women
  • More than 70% have a family history of migraines
  • 91% of migraine sufferers miss work during a migraine attack
  • 69% have sought the advice of a medical doctor for treatment options

Many of the treatment options for migraines are enough to take the edge off of symptoms.  There are prescription painkillers for the head throbbing and anti-nausea medications.  However, the unfortunate truth is that these treatments, while potentially providing some needed temporary relief, do nothing to address why your migraines keep returning.

Getting to the Cause of Migraines

More people are looking to understand the root cause of their migraines and are finding answers with upper cervical chiropractic.  Upper cervical chiropractic differs from general chiropractic in that it addresses very specific misalignments of the atlas vertebra, which is located at the junction between the neck and skull.  A misalignment in this area can cause devastating effects on normal blood flow and neurological function, both big players in migraine conditions.

As an upper cervical chiropractor, I am trained to perform a detailed analysis to identify if an atlas misalignment is obstructing your nervous system’s ability to function properly.  If the atlas is determined to be the underlying cause and a contributing factor to your migraines, gently correcting the atlas and realigning it will result in restored function.  The correction of atlas subluxation has been shown to reduce or even eliminate migraines, sometimes in as little as a few visits.
