Vertigo Treatments – Finding and Fixing the Cause

Anyone who has experienced a true vertigo episode knows that it can be very alarming.  Suddenly, everything feels like its spinning.  Episodes like those can be a once-in-a-lifetime event, or they can be far more regular in frequency.   The most common causes of vertigo are issues concerning the inner ear, such as infections or benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).

As far as treatment options are concerned, determining the cause of the vertigo attacks is important.  People with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo are often referred to physical therapists where they undergo a series of exercises in an attempt to reposition particles in the inner ear that may be causing the problem.  Other vertigo sufferers may be prescribed a variety of medications, including calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers, and tricyclic antidepressants.

Vertigo Vertigo

The unfortunate part about most traditionally recommended vertigo treatments is that they never get to the bottom of why the episodes recur.  In Kissimmee, Florida, Dr. Scott Pancake provides patients in his upper cervical chiropractic practice with a solution that gets to the root of their vertigo. Dr. Pancake uses state-of-the-art technology to assess for interference in nervous system function at the level of the brainstem – the area of the nervous system responsible for relaying messages regarding your body’s balance and position.

When brainstem function is compromised due to a misalignment of the vertebrae that protect it, a gentle adjustment can once again restore normal function.  When given enough time, those vertebrae will remain in their normal position, allowing the body’s natural healing process to take place.
